A longevity-marketed metabolite with striking animal data but scant human evidence.

Alpha-ketoglutarate (as the calcium salt, Ca-AKG) is a Krebs-cycle metabolite involved in energy and epigenetic regulation, marketed as a longevity supplement.

The excitement comes from animal studies showing improved healthspan and, in one, reduced biological-age markers in a small human pilot. But robust randomised human outcome trials are essentially absent, so its anti-ageing claims are preliminary and animal-led.
