Lion's mane

Silver· human data

Also known as: Hericium erinaceus

A mushroom studied for nerve-growth factor and cognition, mostly in early studies.

Lion's mane is an edible mushroom studied for compounds that may stimulate nerve growth factor, underpinning its reputation as a cognitive and nerve-support supplement.

Much of the exciting nerve-regeneration work is preclinical, but a few small human trials report modest improvements in cognition (including in older adults with mild impairment) and mood. Promising and food-safe, but the human evidence is early and limited.
